          During the pre war time in 1945 Barangay Babag was named “BARRIO OF MANTANGE”, after the World War II in 1946 this was change to Barrio Babag.
          Barangay Babag, one of the unique barangay within the vicinity of Butuan City. Its culture has been adopted from the city name of Butuan which is the Butuanon. The small area which is estimated approximate of Seventy-one thousand Two hundred Sixteen (71, 216) hectares more or less, the people survived living depending its income from its fertile lands which produces farm products, such as nipa tuba to nipa vinegar, nipa hut, nipa mat, nipa brooms, nipa shingles, milkfish and prawn culture, native fishes, portion of coconut and other native products. The nature of its location is partly isolated and surrounded with water which causes an early flood of water within the area during high tide even during rainfall season. Like other barangays the people experience the sunny seasons that brings partially not weather for the whole season. Early of September to February normally the people experience the rainy season which brings fogs during early of barangay. The area is not far from the city proper. It takes ( 5) barangays before reaching the city proper and  is estimated more or less Five ( 5 ) kilometres away and would be transported Twenty-five ( 25 ) minutes excluding traffic on the road.
          This barangay has been one of the rural barangay considered. Its area has a total population of One thousand five hundred eighteen (1,518) individuals of which comprises of a total of Two hundred sixty-seven (267) families living on it. Most of them speak Butuanon dialect but partly of them speak the Bisayan dialect. To mentioned, the people are religious in nature and most of them bring the “Roman Catholic Church.”
